Twinkle in the Eye

In the land of England, the time before Christians came to these Emerald Isles. She was ruled by ancient forests and gods of yesteryear. Primordial Hills overlooking the grand valleys.

When the Motherland was finally brought into the good Graces of God and Mother church, there was a mutual represent between  Church and the things of old in the forests that sprawled across England.

We see in many Medieval Churches you can find busts on columns depicting green-men. There has been much debate regarding to why these exist at all, I’m not going to cover all these to save time.  But it is my belief that Catholic England had no issue with Elves or fairies running around, as long as they understood the line between man and such things.

Fae are mostly neutral spirits, they didn’t align with anyone during the War in Heaven so yes they committed a crime by not Siding with GOD but they did not go against him either, so they did not fall with Satan and his angels to Hell but stayed on earth, forced to become its bones.

Besse Dunlop’s Fairy

“He was an honest well elderly man, gray bearded, and head a gray coat with Lombard sleeves of the old fashion…. a black bonnet on his head… and a white wand in his hand.”

-Excerpt from the Trial records of Besse Dunlop. Burnt in 1576 for witchcraft and communing with fae.

A visit to the Downie-Hills.

“I was in the Downie-Hills, and got meat from there the Queen of Fae, the more I could eat. The Queen is brawly clothed in white linens, and in white and brown clothes; and the king of fae is a braw man, well favoured and broad in face. there were Elf-Bulls routing and Skoyling up and down there, and affrighted me.

-Confession of Isabel Gowdie, Witch from Morayshire. 1662
