“A county every where abounding with fertile fields, fat pastures, shady groves and pleasant rivolets”.—James Brome, writing in 1700.
Before the rushing of the waters that sank the land, the division on the Bull.
A people who wore the head of the fox lived among the hills and rivers.
Their capital was named Waras, a settlement of Tumuli Pyramids and deep ditches, A war like people but in the manner of which they conducted war was unseen to the ancient people of Albion. They fought with Shadow, like the Fox of whom worship was given. (possible link to the Germanic Tribe of the Harii)
They fought with many Neolithic City-States or provided their warriors for coin, the Catu–Drothat people as we call them where prized among the Battle-Lords and Priest Kings of Old Albion.
Deor ur Samaan the Metropoli of the marshland fens used Catu spies to wage Guerrilla war upon their enemies
Unlike their contemporary tribes, the Catu lived in perpetual Hunter-gatherer lifestyles, that is externally as appearing to the other peoples of the land.
You see under their great burial mounds and dykes were a highly advanced inter connected tunnel system, populated with numerous caverns on which the Catu kept their darkest secrets, the secrets of their Fox god.
It is theorized that they descend from an Early Proto-Indo-European Mannerbund that found itself in the south of Ingland.
Their god is considered a Trickster god, a thief and spy but it was through his cunning that they were saved by him.
It is said by their witch-doctors that their ancestors were lost among the marshes and swamps, starving and afraid. Hunted by a group of Sabre-cats.
It was told of how the Fox outwitted the Great Cats of the marsh and taught the Catu ancestors the way of Shadow-Walking, a Quasi Spiritual/Warfare tradition that the Catu held onto dearly.
Eventually and some would say unfortunately these people were absorbed into the Roman Machine. But whispers of this “Fox-Cult” linger in rumours amongst the misty hills of Hertfordshire.
